Undercover Blues

Kaytel A. Kilgore

Open your eyes to our city’s gang in
disguise, riding the streets or
walking the beat.

Dressed in blue and carry guns too,
but are they really here to protect and
serve you?

Cutting curves whenever they
feel the urge, no one questions or has the
nerve.

Excuse all their wrongs but make us
pay long, now there’s something strange
going on.

They let these rookies join the
fleet, so quick to shoot but can’t even
speak.

Don’t trust them, my eyes can see.
The way they slang thangs and claim fame
like we do in the streets.

Why waste time calling in a crime,
when they don’t bother getting there
in time.

Messing with people who are at peace,
and then wonder why we say
“Fuck the Police.”

So are we blind sweet city
of mine, or have they just lost control
somewhere down the line?
